Olympic anthem is music to the ears of Sheffield Greyhounds

Reading Time: < 1 min

A unique, new training routine is hitting the right notes with greyhounds at a Sheffield race track.  Dogs at Owlerton Stadium have started listening to the theme song from the Academy award-winning film, Chariots of Fire, to help them prepare for a big race. Streamed through custom-made, canine-friendly head phones, the Olympic anthem, which has become synonymous with sporting success, ensures the greyhounds are on song when they sprint out of the traps. The technique has been piloted by a number of trainers and greyhounds and will now be officially introduced on 1 April 2015.

John Gilburn, Managing Director at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “Sheffield is one of the most successful race tracks in the country and that’s because our trainers pioneer the latest techniques to make sure their greyhounds are top dog. “We’re the first track in the UK to introduce this tune-based training technique into the warm-up routine and we’re already seeing the benefits of playing Olympic beats before a race with many greyhounds going from paws to podium.”
