| ISSUE 15, FEBRUARY 2012 |
| Hi from John Gilburn, Managing Director... |
|
Who says that January is the month of hibernation? It's been far from a quiet January here at the Stadium! We've been packed every night this month as customers took advantage of our popular 2 for 1 offer.
January also saw us celebrate the 80th anniversary of greyhound racing at the Stadium - and as result we've been doing a bit of reminiscing. Human mascot races, stiletto-clad ladies taking part in penalty shoot-outs and more charity nights than you can shake a stick at: the good times do indeed roll at Owlerton. If you have any of your own stories then please do get in touch (they might even make it into our blog...).
We're now looking forward to February - but Valentine's Day and the Leap Year aside, what we really want to celebrate this month is the great British public's love for dogs. If you love to splash the cash on your pampered pooch then let us know by voting on our poll - details below!

As always, please get in contact with any feedback, ideas or comments, we love to hear from you: johngilburn@owlertonstadium.co.uk
Remember it's not just the dogs people come for...
John

Greyhound Board of Great Britain Awards 2012
The movers and shakers from the industry came together earlier this month to celebrate the prestigious Great British Greyhound Board Awards.
It was a very successful night for Sheffield with Joanne Crimp - who works for Sheffield trainer Lisa Stephenson - scooping the award for Kennelhand of the Year, following a glowing nomination from all those who work with her.
Sheffield trainer Barrie Draper was also victorious: Eden Star was crowned Newcomer of the Year, and Capoley Ash picked up Marathon Greyhound of the Year.
The accolade of GBGB Greyhound of the Year went to Taylors Sky, owned by Steve & Becky Taylor and trained by Charlie Lister.
Congratulations all round!

80th Anniversary
Greyhound racing first took place at Owlerton Stadium in 1932, when it was introduced by the then owners, Carter, Miller and Bird.
The Stadium has hosted a variety of events since then, including beauty pageants, horse racing, speedway, football, American football, Sheffield Eagles Rugby, Stock cars and even the odd mascot race, but greyhound racing continues to attract thousands of visitors every year.
Here's to the next 80 years!

Helen's Trust event
There are still tickets available for our Helen's Trust Race Day on 21st February. It's a great cause and what's more, there's even the chance to meet 'The Wire' star Dominic West up for grabs! The charity was set up 10 years ago to help those with a terminal illness to stay at home during their last few months. We hope many of you will be able to come along and show your support.
