Pets treated to day of pawsitively great fun
As all pet owners will know, finding fun activities to do with your dog has never been trickier. The combined cat and dog population in the UK stands at a whopping 20.8 million* but as this figure increases so do the rules and regulations on pets in public places.
With some councils issuing Dog Control Orders (DCOs) banning our canine companions from many play areas, fields, open spaces and beaches, Owlerton Stadium has decided to take matters into their own hands by hosting an entire day of spectacular fun just for your pooch.
Yorkshire’s premier racing track will be inviting all four-legged friends to a Doggy Fun Day on Sunday 18 July in aid of the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust.
This special day will include an activity extravaganza, keeping both the owner and the dog entertained throughout. Some impressive titles will also be up for grabs including ‘Prettiest Bitch’, ‘Most Handsome Dog’, ‘Dog most like its Owner’ and ‘Best Fancy Dress Costume’.
A number of unique and exclusive canine stalls will also be on-hand for those who feel their dog deserves a well earned treat after their astonishing performance. Stalls include: Yorkshire’s premier dog bakery “Houndmade” who provide delicious natural dog treats, and Luxury designer “Silver Peacock” providing beautiful handmade collars and accessories for hounds.
With all proceeds going to the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) – Sheffield branch, the retired greyhounds will also be on hand throughout the day to give aspiring racing pooches a lesson or two about the art of sprinting whilst showing dog lovers what perfect companions they can be.
Owlerton Stadium’s Managing Director John Gilburn comments: “Dogs nowadays aren’t even allowed to go to the beach with their owners because of restrictive laws and regulations! And with more than 20.8 million pets in the UK, we want to provide a venue that brings families and their four legged friends together for a great day out. It’s also a great opportunity for the Retired Greyhound Trust to show-off our impeccably behaved greyhounds by introducing them to everyone and allowing visitors to see that they can be the greatest companions after they retire”
The Doggy Fun Day will take place at Owlerton Stadium, Penistone Road, S6 2DE on Sunday 18th July 2010 at 11am. Entry to the event is free of charge
A selection of refreshments will be on-hand for all those needing to re-charge!
